Operation Sindoor

Why does Operation Sindoor mean so much to Indians?
When my wife does not put on a Sindoor (Kunkamu Bottu in Telugu) I don’t feel comfortable. I am not superstitious but, I am not used to it.
The face looks bland and empty.
The Marvelous Kunkamu Bottu: More Than Just a Mark
There is a feeling of something missing when my wife wife doesn’t wear the Kunkamu Bottu. This personal experience touches upon the profound way this tradition is woven into our perception and cultural understanding. Let’s elaborate on the purposes it signals:
- Marital Status: This is perhaps the most widely recognized significance. The Sindoor unequivocally declares a woman’s married status, signifying her commitment and the sanctity of the marital bond. It acts as a visual representation of suhag (auspiciousness of marriage).
- Protection and Well-being of the Husband: Traditionally, the application of Sindoor is associated with prayers and wishes for the long life and well-being of the husband. It’s seen as a wife’s devotion and a symbolic offering for her husband’s prosperity.
- Social Standing and Respect: In many communities, the Sindoor contributes to a married woman’s social standing and commands a certain respect. It identifies her role within the family and society.
- Spiritual Significance: The forehead is considered an important energy center in the body, the Ajna Chakra or the “third eye.” Applying Sindoor is believed to stimulate this point, promoting concentration, wisdom, and positive energy. The red color itself is often associated with Shakti (divine feminine energy), auspiciousness, and passion.
- Aesthetic and Cultural Identity: The Kunkamu Bottu adds a distinct beauty to a woman’s face. It’s an integral part of the traditional adornment and a strong visual marker of Hindu identity. It connects individuals to their heritage and cultural roots.
- Continuity of Tradition: By observing and practicing the application of Sindoor, families pass down cultural values and traditions through generations, ensuring their continuity and relevance.
Many messages in one go.
Let us look at the politically charged interpretation of “Operation Sindoor” and its potential impact. By associating a military operation with the Sindoor, a symbol deeply tied to Hindu married women, Prime Minister Modi has strategically:
- Countered Opposition Allegations: The opposition often accuses Modi and his party of “saffronizing” government institutions, meaning infusing them with Hindu religious symbolism. By using “Sindoor” in a military context, the argument suggests he’s directly addressing and potentially neutralizing this criticism.
- “Saffronized” the Defense Forces: This act “saffronizes” the defense forces, implying a deliberate connection between the military and Hindu religious symbolism. India that is Bharat is a Hindu Majority Secular State. This is what BJP is aiming for.
- Politicized a Religious Symbol: The posit is that Modi has effectively politicized the Sindoor, transforming it into a symbol of national security and female empowerment within a specific political context.
- Appealed to Women Voters: The core of the argument is that this move will resonate deeply with Indian women, fostering a sense of security and loyalty towards Modi. It suggests that women will see him as a protector, leading to increased electoral support.
This is the first reason for my Śrāvaṇanandakaramu – శ్రావణనందకరము

The second one is the effect the Operation Sindoor has on opposition parties. To understand this we have to appreciate how we look at our competitor. We always assess how good is our competitor.
In cricket, how good is the bowling and batting.
In boxing, how good are the reflexes and the punches.
In politics, how far will my opponent go and risk his career. And, war is a risk which even the most notorious and corrupt politicians will not risk. Till now, politicians had not seen the side of Modi. How far will he go in war?
They know now.
Before the opponent realized he was in their throat and out.
And, most of them have become quiet, silent is a better word.
The third reason for is politicians of BJP.
They will all fear Modi with respect. They will not only listen to him but also do what he asks them to do, and ASAP.
The fourth reason is countries of the world.
Seeing India’s Defence technological superiority, Russia has already initiated steps to manufacture S-500 in India.
USA wants Akashveer.
Which means our respect has gone up by several notches.
Okay, so the very last thing to chew on is what’s going on in the heads of Pakistan’s army right now, right?
They’ve gotta be scratching their heads about two big headaches:
First, how to pop out some fresh terrorists, like hitting a bad guy vending machine. Second, where on earth do they stash these guys now?
Thing is, the first problem might be easier than we think! Looks like the IMF, with a little nudge from Uncle Sam, just dropped a cool $1 billion into their lap. Talk about a terrorist starter pack! Suddenly, beefing up the bad guy buffet is a piece of cake.
But the hiding spot? Now that’s the real head-scratcher.
Will the good ol’ USA lend a hand? Nope, not a chance!
So, what’s Plan B? Maybe build some swanky terrorist dorms right inside their army bases? Could work, keeps things in-house.
But hold on, I’ve got a better idea! The really genius move? Building little hidey-holes for them in the backyards of the army officers’ homes! Talk about camouflage! Who’d think to look for a terrorist chilling by the barbecue?
That’s gotta be the Fort Knox of terrorist housing, safe and sound from any pesky Indian fireworks.
Just think of it. No place to hide. Looks like a title from an Hollywood Thriller Movie.
